Respiratory Configurations
Respiratory configurations allow you to create a list of respiratory parameters that can be appended to blood gas patient results. Respiratory configurations are not supported by all device types.

Parameters
Configuring parameters allows you to select the values to be used and define how those values are captured during respiratory entry. The parameter list provides the ability to add, edit, and delete parameters in a respiratory configuration. At least one parameter must be configured in the list in order to save a respiratory configuration. The parameter list supports drag and drop reordering.
Individual parameters can be cloned within a respiratory configuration. All parameter fields will be prepopulated based on the cloned item, except for parameter which defaults to blank.
The following fields exist for a parameter:
Field | Notes |
---|---|
Parameter | Value to be appended to a patient result via manual respiratory entry; picklist only contains parameters that are not already included in the parameter list |
Optional | When checked, the parameter is not required to have a value when this respiratory configuration is added to a result (i.e., it is optional); when unchecked, a value is required |
Unit of Measure | Unit of measure associated with the parameter |
Entry Method | Type of entry method associated with the parameter; see Entry Methods for more information |
As mentioned above, the parameters selected for a respiratory configuration can be ordered with respect to each other in the Add/Edit dialog. This ordering defines the exact order the result values appear in the following places:
- Result Values in the result’s details
- Enter Respiratory Values dialog for the result
- Anomaly Reports
The order can be set by dragging individual parameters around within the respiratory configuration.
Entry Methods
The following entry methods are available for selection within a parameter:
Entry Method | Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
Picklist | Allows the RALS™ SYSTEM operator to select a value from a dropdown list of predefined values | Options can be added and deleted; options are in-line editable; at least one option must be configured in order to save the parameter |
Freetext | Allows the RALS™ SYSTEM operator to enter text as the value | |
Numeric | Allows the RALS™ SYSTEM operator to enter a numeric value | The following sub-fields are available for the numeric entry method: Number of Decimal Places, Minimum Value, Maximum Value |
Adding a Respiratory Configuration to an Existing Result
See Enter Respiratory Values for more information.
Institution Access
A respiratory configuration’s institution identity is defined by user selection when the configuration is created. The assigned institution cannot be changed later.
Adding
Respiratory configurations can be added if at least one device is enabled that supports respiratory entry. See Add Fields for more information.
Editing
Respiratory configuration details can be edited. Editing a respiratory configuration does not alter existing patient results that have previously used the configuration for respiratory entry. See View or Edit Details Fields for more information.
Cloning
All respiratory configurations can be cloned. All values will be copied, except:
Field | Notes |
---|---|
Name | You will be prompted to enter a new one |
Active | Will be set to true, even if cloned from a deactivated respiratory configuration |
Institution | You will be prompted to select one |
Deactivating or Deleting
Respiratory configurations can be deactivated, but not deleted. A deactivated respiratory configuration is not available for selection when editing a result. A deactivated respiratory configuration can be reactivated. Deactivating a respiratory configuration does not alter existing patient results that have previously been associated with that respiratory configuration.
Fields
Respiratory configuration fields are located in the following places in the RALS™ SYSTEM:
Data Table Fields
When viewing respiratory configurations in a data table, the fields are defined as follows:
Field | Notes |
---|---|
General | |
Key | Unique identifier |
Active | Whether the respiratory configuration is currently marked as active within the RALS™ SYSTEM; only active respiratory configurations can be used for respiratory entry on results |
Institution | Institution associated with the respiratory configuration |
Name | Name associated with the respiratory configuration |
Notes | |
Notes | Open text field that can be used at your discretion |
Add Fields
When adding a respiratory configuration, the fields are defined as follows:
Field | Notes |
---|---|
General | |
Name | Name associated with the respiratory configuration |
Institution | Institution associated with the respiratory configuration |
Parameters | |
Parameters | Parameters associated with the respiratory configuration; see Parameters for more information |
