Messages
There are two types of operator messages that can be sent from RALS™ SYSTEM:
- Device messages: applies to device types that support operator messages.
- E-mail messages: when the system is configured to support e-mails, “E-mail” can be selected as a device type when sending messages to eligible RALS™ SYSTEM operators.

Device Operator Message Statuses
Operator messages can have the following statuses:
Icon | Status | Description |

Pending | This message has not yet been acknowledged by the operator | |
Acknowledged | This message has been displayed on the device and acknowledged by the operator | |
Discarded | This message was discarded/cancelled before it was acknowledged by the operator |
E-mail Operator Message Statuses
Operator messages can have the following statuses:

Institution Access
An operator message’s institution identity is defined by the associated operator.
Adding
Operator messages can be sent to any active operator with a non-expired certification for a device type that supports operator messaging.
Editing
Operator messages cannot be edited.
Cloning
Operator messages cannot be cloned.
Deactivating or Deleting
Operator messages cannot be deleted nor deactivated. See Discard Message for information about cancelling a message.
Message Actions
The following actions are available for messages:
Send Message
A message can be sent to one or more operators at a time. The Send Message action is available if at least one selected operator is eligible to receive a message.
An operator is eligible to receive a device-specific message if:
- the operator has a non-expired certification for a device type that supports operator messaging; and
- the operator is active.
An operator is eligible to receive an e-mail message if:
- the system is configured for e-mail; and
- the operator has a valid e-mail address; and
- the operator is active.
When sending a message, the fields are defined as follows:

Device Type | Devices - Displays device types that are enabled, support operator messages, and match the selected operators’ non-expired certifications |
E-mail - Allows operator to send e-mail message if RALS™ SYSTEM is configured for e-mail and at least one operator has a valid e-mail address | |
Message | Allows free text entry and saving for future use. Saved messages are user-specific |
Eligible Operators | Displays the list of selected operators eligible to receive the message |
Devices only - indicates whether each operator has a pending message. Pending messages will be discarded. Operators can be de-selected (and thus, would not receive the message) | |
Ineligible Operators | Displays the list of selected operators not eligible to receive the message. The user must view this list before proceeding |
Discard Message
Pending messages can be discarded/cancelled. A discarded message can be re-sent as a new message.

Data Table Fields
When viewing messages in a data table, the fields are defined as follows:

Key | Unique identifier |
Acknowledged Time | Time the message was acknowledged by the operator on the device; if multiple time zone support is enabled, this is displayed relative to your time zone preference |
Device Type | Device type selected to display the message; select “E-mail” for e-mail messages |
Discarded By | Operator who discarded the message |
Discarded Time | Time the message was discarded; this will be displayed in the User’s Preference if Multiple Time Zones is enabled |
Message | Message sent to the operator |
Operator | Operator selected to receive the message |
Sent By | Operator who sent the message |
Sent Time | Time the message was sent; this will be displayed in the User’s Preference if Multiple Time Zones is enabled |
Status | Current status of the message |
