Device Types
A device type represents either the physical instrument model that connect to the RALS™ SYSTEM or manual test types. Device Types allow support users to enable, license, and configure both physical instrument models and manual test types.

Institution Access
Device types are a system-wide resource without any institution identity.
Adding
Device types cannot be added.
Editing
Device types can be edited by support users.
Cloning
Device types cannot be cloned.
Deactivating or Deleting
Device types can be deactivated if:
- there are no devices for the device type; and
- there are no manual test configurations for the device type; and
- no operators have a certification for the device type

Device types fields are located in the following places in the RALS™ SYSTEM:
Data Table Fields
When viewing device types in a data table, the fields are defined as follows:

| Name | Name of the device type |
| Active | Indicates whether the device type is currently active in RALS™ SYSTEM |
| Decommisioned | Indicates a device type previously used in this RALS™ SYSTEM system, but subsequently removed from service |
| Manual Test | Indicates whether the device type is a manual test (i.e. not a physical instrument model) |
| Operator ID RegEx | The regular expression used to validate whether an operator ID conforms to the device type’s operator ID restrictions |
| Operator Password RegEx | The regular expression used to validate whether an operator password conforms to the device type’s operator password restrictions |
| Manual Test | |
| Allow RALS Entry | If true, results for the device type may be entered directly into RALS; if false, results for the device type can only be received via an instrument (e.g. Nova handheld devices) |

| Institution Licenses | Dynamically added fields for each institution, denoting number of licenses for the given device type |
View or Edit Details Fields
When viewing or editing a device type’s details, the fields are defined as follows:

| Decommisioned | Indicates a device type previously used in this RALS™ SYSTEM system, but subsequently removed from service |

| Operator Password RegEx | The regular expression used to validate whether an operator password conforms to the device type’s operator password restrictions |
| Licenses | |
| Institution | Lists each institution that the user has access to |
| License Devices | Number of devices currently licensed at the institution |
| Licenses | The total number of licensed devices the institution can have for the given device type |
| Units of Measure | |
| Parameter | Substance or element that the device measures |
| Type | How the result value is derived (i.e. measured, entered, calculated) |
| Unit of Measure | Unit of measure in which results are displayed |
| System Configurations | |
| Fields vary by device type | Contains system configuration fields that apply to the device type |
