Patient Ranges Sets

Patient ranges sets allow you to specify custom ranges per device type and institution. The RALS™ SYSTEM uses patient ranges sets to evaluate results. The RALS™ SYSTEM can be used to define demographic-specific patient ranges for device types that do not offer that level of granularity. Patient ranges sets are not supported by all device types.

Evaluation Criteria: “Use RALS Patient Ranges”

If enabled for a particular device type/location combination, results will not be evaluated against ranges from the device. Instead, the appropriate RALS™ SYSTEM-defined patient ranges sets (based on demographics/specimen type) will be used to evaluate the result. This is applicable to both devices and manual tests. The specific process by which the RALS™ SYSTEM chooses a patient ranges set is described below in Matching a Set.

The “Use RALS Patient Ranges” evaluation setting is disabled by default.

Matching a Set

If a patient result is downloaded to the RALS™ SYSTEM and the “Use RALS Patient Ranges” evaluation criterion is enabled, then the system will attempt to find a RALS™ SYSTEM-defined patient ranges set against which to evaluate that result’s parameters. The RALS™ SYSTEM will compare the specimen type and demographic data of the result to the respective fields of all patient ranges sets defined for the same device type/location combination.

Flagging

If “Use RALS Patient Ranges” is enabled, the RALS™ SYSTEM ignores any ranges and any of the following flags coming in from the device:

It then creates flags based on its own evaluation using patient ranges sets.

The RALS™ SYSTEM will flag patient results using the following:

Reprocess Result

A result may need to be re-evaluated after resolving a “Questionable Ranges” or “No Patient Ranges” flag. If you have the appropriate permission, the “Reprocess Result” function is available for results. When using this function, the RALS™ SYSTEM will re-evaluate selected results with “Use RALS Patient Ranges” enabled.

When a result is reassigned, that result is automatically reprocessed as the new patient may require a different patient ranges set than the original.

Institution Access

A patient ranges set’s institution identity is defined by user selection when the set is created. The assigned institution cannot be assigned later.

Default Sets

Default sets are not supported by patient ranges sets.

Adding

Patient ranges sets can be added for device types that:

See Add Fields for more information.

Editing

All patient ranges sets can be edited, except for default sets. See View or Edit Details Fields for more information.

Cloning

All patient ranges sets can be cloned. All values will be copied, except:

Field Notes
Name You will be prompted to enter a new one
Institution You will be prompted to select a new one
Locations Defaults to no assigned location(s)
Active Will be set to true, even if cloned from a deactivated patient ranges set

Deactivating or Deleting

Patient ranges sets can be deactivated.

Fields

Patients ranges set fields are located in the following places in the RALS™ SYSTEM:
