Specimen Types
A specimen type refers to the biological material collected for point-of-care testing. Specimen types are device-type specific and the RALS™ SYSTEM provides the ability to capture specimen types with results.
Default specimen types are based on information provided from device manufacturers and represent expected specimen types to be transmitted by that device type. Default specimen types exist across institutions. Only the LIS Name can be edited. Default specimen types cannot be deactivated.

Active | Will be set to true, even if cloned from a deactivated specimen type |
Default | Will be set to false, even if cloned from a default specumen type |
Device Type | Pre-populated from original record |
Name | User is prompted to enter a new one |
Code | User is prompted to enter a new one |
LIS Name | If existing, pre-populated from original record |
In Use | Indicates whether the specimen type is used in a patient range set or outbound configuration |
Patient Ranges | Patient Range Sets associated with the in-use specimen type |
Outbound Configurations | Outbound Configurations assocaited with the in-use specimen type |
Deactivating or Deleting
Specimen types can be deactivated if: * they are not in use; and * they are not default specimen types
